Voice features FAQ

Voice features let you speak questions to Ask AI using the microphone button and listen to responses using the speaker button. They are available to all users on supported browsers at no extra cost.

Voice input and output are built into Ask AI. You can also execute financial actions like creating goals and updating budgets by voice. For a full walkthrough, see the Voice Features Guide.

How do I use voice input?

Click the microphone button in the Ask AI chat input area to start recording. Speak your question, then review the transcript before sending. Recording stops automatically after 3 seconds of silence or when you click the mic button again.

How do I listen to AI responses?

Hover over any assistant message and click the speaker icon in the top-right corner. Click it again to stop playback. Only one message can play at a time.

Does voice cost extra?

No. Voice uses the same credit system as typing. The first question in a new conversation costs 1 credit. All follow-up questions in the same conversation are free.

Which browsers support voice features?

Voice works best on desktop Chrome and Edge, and Chrome on Android. Firefox and Safari (14.1 and later) have partial support. Your browser must support the MediaRecorder API.

What languages are supported?

Voice features currently support English only.

Is there a keyboard shortcut for voice input?

Yes. Press Alt + Shift + M on Windows/Linux or Cmd + Option + M on Mac. Hold the keys to record and release to stop. You can customize this shortcut in Settings > Shortcuts.

Why did my recording stop on its own?

Voice Activity Detection automatically stops recording after 3 seconds of silence. There is also a 2-minute maximum per recording. You can start a new recording immediately.

Can I take actions like creating goals by voice?

Yes. You can create, update, or delete savings goals, create budgets, update budget categories, change transaction details, and manage recurring streams. Delete operations require a confirmation step for safety.

Is my voice data stored or shared?

No. Your audio is transcribed to text and then discarded. Only the text transcript is saved as part of your conversation history. Your voice data is never shared with third parties.

Voice input is not working. What should I check?

Make sure your browser has microphone permission enabled for abda. Check that your device has a working microphone. Try using Chrome or Edge for the best experience. If recording still fails, reload the page and try again.

Is there a limit on how many voice questions I can ask?

Voice input is rate-limited to 20 requests per minute. Each recording must be between 1 second and 2 minutes long.

Do I need a paid plan to use voice?

No. Voice features are available to all users, including those on the free tier.
